Pan Guangdan and “the states of equilibrium and harmony”
摘要/Abstract
潘光旦是优生学家、社会学家、民族学家．他将优生学理论应用于社会学研究，并结合孔门社会哲学思想，提出“位育”的新概念．《中庸》上说：“致中和，天地位焉，万物育焉．”“位”即“安其所”，“育”即“遂其生”．安所遂生，乃一切生命之大欲．一个人，一个民族，都在求其“安所遂生”，即求其“位育”．教育的目的也在于求人生良好的“位育”．
Pan Guangdan is an eugenist,socialogist,and ethnologist. He applied eugenist theory to the study of sociaology and put forward a new concept of "the states of equilibrium and harmony" by borrowing Confucian philosophy. The Doctrine of Mean says"Let the states of equilibrium and harmony exist in perfection,and a happy order will prevail throughout heaven and earth,and all things will be nourished and flourish". Equilibrium is the great root from which grow human actings. Be it a nation or an individual,all human seek the states of equilibrium and harmony. The purpose of education is to attain the perfect harmony in human life.
