Principle in things and knowing through pragmaticism—Philosophical foundation of educational thoughts by Yan Yuan

摘要:

清初实学家颜元针对程朱理学"理在气先"的说法,以气为宇宙万物之实体,建构了"理在事中"的本体论,由此出发,主张"习而行之"的方法论,认为"格物"而后"致知"。基于此,颜元在教育思想上宣扬实学教育理念,推行了以"习行事物"为主旨的书院教育。

Abstract:

Yan Yuan, a Chinese pragmatism advocator, argues against the hypothesis of principle existing before things by Cheng Zhu school,and constructs the ontology of principle existing in things. Moreover, he adopts the methodology of pragmatism and claims that the understanding of things gives rise to knowledge. The knowing through pragmatism also acts as the theme of academic education.
