大学学术治理机器化：理性逻辑与非理性后果

The Mechanization of Academic Governance: Rational Logic and Its Irrational Consequences in Universities

摘要/Abstract

摘要：

组织意象是高等教育研究的重要理论视角，从大学组织的“机器”意象角度出发来考察大学学术治理问题有助于拓展新的认识。根据摩根的组织意象理论和韦伯的科层制理论，“机器”隐喻与组织的理性化和科层化密切相关。随着高等教育现代化的不断推进，大学学术治理必然因大学组织的理性化而呈现出机器化的特点，主要表现为效率导向的目标治理、量化优先的指标治理和强调预控的过程治理三个方面。大学学术治理机器化是高等教育现代化的必然结果，但也可能带来大学困于排名、教师被数据绑架和学术虚假繁荣等非理性后果。因此，优化大学学术治理，需要建立责任伦理导向的大学学术治理体系，完善大学学术委员会制度，呵护大学教师的学术热情。

Abstract：

Organizational metaphor serves as a crucial theoretical lens in higher education research. Examining university academic governance through the “machine” metaphor offers new insights into its operational dynamics. Grounded in Morgan’s organizational imagery theory and Weber’s bureaucracy theory, the “machine” metaphor reflects the rationalization and bureaucratization of organizational structures. As higher education modernization progresses, academic governance inevitably exhibits mechanized characteristics due to institutional rationalization. This manifests primarily in three aspects: (1) efficiency-oriented goal governance, (2) quantification-prioritized indicator governance, and (3) preemptive control-focused process governance. While such mechanization represents an inevitable outcome of higher education modernization, it may engender irrational consequences, such as institutional obsession with rankings, faculty enslavement to metrics, and artificial academic prosperity. To optimize academic governance, universities should: (1) establish a governance system guided by ethics and responsibility, (2) refine academic committee mechanisms, and (3) safeguard faculty’s scholarly enthusiasm. These measures aim to counteract the dehumanizing effects of mechanization while preserving the essential mission of higher education.
