老年教育何以促进老年人社会参与——基于参与者视角下的混合研究

Enhancing Social Participation Among the Elderly Through Education: A Mixed-Methods Study from Participants’ Perspectives

摘要:

积极老龄化强调提高老年人的社会参与水平,老年教育则是促进老年人社会参与的重要途径。近年来,关于老年教育与老年人社会参与的理论价值得到反复重申,然而实证研究却有所匮乏。因此,有必要在实证研究范式的指导下,选择参与者视角,采用混合研究 方法对老年教育“能否”以及“如何”促进老年人社会参与的论断加以验证与探索。运用自行编制的《老年群体社会参与调查问卷》对1 079位老年人展开调研、通过目的抽样对18名老年人进行深度访谈可以发现,老年教育能够影响并预测老年人社会参与水平,且对参加 社区治理预测性最强;老年教育通过更新观念、促进健康、培育技能、积累资本等方式可以提高老年人社会参与的主动性、可能性、有效性与可及性,形成了“观念先行-资本储备-技能提升”的交互作用内在机制。未来的老年教育工作需在观念宣导上从消极观转向积极 观,在功能上从休闲型走向参与型,在办学容量上从“一座难求”面向各取所需,在技能提升上从有权无能走向知权增能,在资本积累上从形单影只到抱团取暖,在机制建构上从教育价值拓向治理功能,继而推动老年教育高质量发展。

Abstract:

Active aging emphasizes the importance of increasing social participation among the elderly, with education for the elderly serving as a key mechanism to facilitate this engagement. While the theoretical benefits of elderly education and social participation have been frequently discussed, empirical research remains limited. This study aims to explore and validate how education for the elderly promotes social participation by employing a mixed-methods approach grounded in participants’ perspectives. A survey of 1,079 older adults, utilizing a self-designed questionnaire on social participation, was conducted, complemented by in-depth interviews with 18 participants selected through objective sampling. The findings indicate that education for the elderly significantly influences and predicts levels of social participation, particularly in community governance. The underlying mechanism reveals that elderly education enhances the initiative, feasibility, effectiveness, and accessibility of participation through renewing mindsets, promoting health, cultivating skills, and accumulating social capital. This process forms an interactive model characterized by the sequence of “mindset renewing—capital accumulating—skills upgrading.” To advance the quality of elderly education aimed at boosting social participation, the study recommends shifting perceptions from passive to active engagement, from leisure-focused to participatory educational philosophies, and from scarce opportunities to tailored educational pathways. It also advocates for fostering awareness of personal agency and skill enhancement, encouraging collaborative efforts in capital cultivation, and transitioning from purely educational values to governance functions within coordination mechanisms.
