Cai Yuanpei’s Thought on Aesthetic Education and Its Contemporary Value

摘要:

蔡元培力倡“思想自由,兼容并包”的办学方针,不仅从理论上主张美育,而且在实践上冲破了形式主义的美育樊篱。他不断探索适合中国国情的美育道路,形成了富有特色的美育思想体系。蔡元培在为谋求中国自强而提出的“以美育代宗教”思想理念下,厘定了养成“健全之人格”的美育办学方针,构建了学校、家庭、社会教育“三位一体”的多形式、多层次的美育实施体系;其美育实践意义深远,通过设立各种艺术院校、创议各类美育社团等美育实践,促进了中国现代美育的制度建设,推动了传统艺术形式的突破创新和艺术传播的蓬勃发展;他高举教育救国和民主平等的旗帜,通过树立美育理想信念与发扬理论联系实际的美育精神,为挖掘美育新元素和实现审美现代化写下了精彩绚丽的篇章。

Abstract:

Cai Yuanpei (1868-1940) is known for his education policy of “freedom of thought and inclusiveness.” He not only advocated aesthetic education in theory, but also broke through the formalistic aesthetic education barrier in practice. He kept exploring ways for aesthetic education adaptable to China’s national conditions, and had developed a distinctive philosophical system of aesthetic education. Under the idea of “replacing religion with aesthetic education,” put forward to seek China’s self-improvement, he developed the aesthetic education policy of cultivating “sound personality,” and built a “trinity” multi-form and multi-level aesthetic education implementation system composed of school, family and social education.His aesthetic education practice is of far-reaching significance. He has promoted the construction of the modern aesthetic education system in China and promoted the innovation and breakthrough of traditional art forms and the vigorous development of art communication through his aesthetic education practice, such as setting up various art schools and creating various aesthetic education associations.Holding the banner of saving the nation through education, democracy, and equality, he made great contributions to the excavation of new elements of aesthetic education and the realization of aesthetic modernization by establishing the ideal and belief of aesthetic education and carrying forward the aesthetic education philosophy of integrating theory with practice.
