In recent years, online public opinion events related to higher education institutes have undergone new changes and shown new characteristics. It is manifested as the prominent tendency of “group polarization,” the wide coverage of public opinion content, the high risk of public opinion dissemination, and the frequent occurrence of public opinion events. There are some problems in the channeling of online public opinion in higher education institutes, such as lack of coordination between management departments, lagging construction of channeling platform and insufficient construction of work force etc. In addition, new online media promote the information dissemination of public opinion, which often puts higher education institutes into a tight corner in the process of dealing with online public opinion events. Therefore, higher education institutes should attach great importance to the management of online public opinion, strengthen the online public opinion channeling measures to maintain the harmony and stability of higher education institutes and the whole society.
