An 8-week experiment w as carried out to evaluate compensatory grow thof juvenile Chinese sof tshelled turtle Pelodiscus sinensis with body w eight (17.61?0.46) gunder four cyclical regimes of feed deprivation and refeeding under (30.0?0.5)e.T he deprivation and refeeding regimes included d of deprivation fo-llowed with 6 d of refeeding (T₁),2 d of deprivation with 5 d of refeeding (T₂),3 d of depriv at ion with 4 dofrefeeding (T₃).And the control group feddaily throughout the experiment (C).At the end of the ex periment,the final body weight,feeding rate and specific grow thrate in group T₁ and C w ere signif icantly higher than those of group T ₂ and T₃.While there were no signif icantdif ferences in feed conversion ratio among four groups. Our results indicate that the turtles of group T1 showed completely compensatory grow th response mostly dependedon enhancing of the feeding rate.The optimal ratio of deprivation to refeeding length may be below 1B6 and five cycles of deprivation and refeeding may be appropriate for the turtles.
