NMR Study of the Effect of Spacer Length in Tween 40/Gemini System on a Mixed System Effectiveness

Abstract

Abstract:

Polyoxyethylene sorbitan palmitate(T40),as a common non-ionic surfactant,is involved in the formation of binary mixed micelle system with Gemini surfactant tetramethylene 1,4-bis(dodecyl ammonium chloride) (G12-4-12) and eight methylene 1,8-bis(dodecyl ammonium chloride) (G12-8-12).The formation, size changes, arrangement, distribution proportion, interactian sites and the effect of spacer length in the system are comprehensively investigated by using the means of chemical shift (δ) change,spin-spin relaxation time (T2),spin-lattice relaxation time (T1), self-diffusion coefficient (DOSY) and two-dimensional nuclear overhauser enhancement spectroscopy(2D NOESY).The study shows that the optimal molar ratio of T40/Gemini is 2.5:1 and the intermolecular force decreases slightly with the increase of spacer group.
