A review of researches by Liu Cunren, an Austral ian Chinese on Journey to the West
摘要/Abstract
崇敬胡适先生的澳籍华裔学者柳存仁先生, 虽然名义上仍坚持吴承恩作《西游记》的看法, 但他面对《西》书结构和文本的"全真味", 面对宋元明全真教史中的大量资料, 多层次全方位地证明了《西》书从构思、演衍到撰稿, 均与全真教有关联, 从而提出《西》书有一个全真教古本, 确是近年《西》书研究中的一大创获。它实际是对"吴作"说的致命一击。
While Mr. Liu Cunren, an Australian Chinese scholar, seems to agree with Wu Cheng'en on his designing of Journey to the West, he can not but face the textual structure, the piles of the literature over the novel through Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties, and finally claims that all this is related to the Quanzhen Daoism. Furthermore he claims there should be a classic version of the Quanzhen-related Journey to the West. This hypothesis is considered as an academic achievement in the literary criticism, and a blow to the Wu's fictional designing.
