摘要：
由淮军部将出身而无科举功名的刘铭传, 不但较快地擢升提督, 而且终得获任巡抚, 这样的仕途履历, 对他来说不能不说幸运, 但他并不坚意于居官, 其间屡有乞归退隐之时。透过表象, 察其真情实因, 可知既与其人的性格特征分不开, 也和他特定的身份条件相关联, 还有着具体境遇诱因的作用。明晰于此, 对认识其人以及连带地了解相关情势, 当是一个有意义的侧面。
Abstract：
Liu Mingchuan is an officer of the Huai army, not out of imperial examination. However, he acquires his promotion so rapidly that he soon becomes a governor solely out of his luck. It is disclosed that he frequently seeks his recluse. So the paper argues that a panoramic view is necessary to reinterpret his personality with his identification and the complexity of the difficult situation.
