Differentiation and analysis of a narration in Historical Records·History of Qin
摘要/Abstract
摘要：
《史记·秦本纪》说 :“大廉玄孙曰孟戏、中衍,鸟身人言。帝太戊闻而卜之使御”。历来注家、译家往往把“鸟身人言”解释为:“中衍身体是鸟,能说人话。”其实,“鸟身”应属上读,鸟身之“鸟”,为名词用如动词,中衍鸟身,即中衍刺飞鸟于其身,亦即所谓“文身”,系图腾之标记。“人言”应属下读,即有人将中衍的情况言之于帝太戊。
Abstract：
In the Historical Records·History of Qin (Historical Records, by Sima Qian, C. 145or c. 135- ? BC of the Western Han Dynasty) there is a narration: Zhong Xian had a bird design tattooed on his body and somebody told Di Tai Wu about his tattoo. For centuries, the annotators and translators have misunderstood this narration and misinterpreted it as"Zhong Xian has a bird's body but can speak human language."
