The standardization of modern Chinese polyphonic characters is a very complicated project,the aim of which is to facilitate the use of these characters, the overall standardization of the Chinese language,and the information processing by using written Chinese. The principles to be followed should be conforming to simplicity, keeping the established rules,offering definite explanations and easy utterance, with due consideration for all the factors concerned. Twelve respects should be taken into consideration to reduce the quantity of the Chinese polyphonic characters.
