This paper discusses the art of the beginning of the novel Dream of Red Mansions.The author highlights the setting and the characters by teling a fairy tale at the beginning of the novel,just like another novel Water Margin,which leads to the plot and atmosphere of the scene and the lyrical style of the language.The author adapted a variety of structures and skilLs of novel writing and changed the rigid pattern of traditional Chinese novel(divided into several chapters with each chapter headed by a couple of giving gist of its content).The novel has its unigue feature of^" get ting into t he reality from illusion and presenting the real w orld by a mixt ure of w hat is real and w hat is unreal^" .And it thus creates a kind of artist iccriterion in world literature.
