Disintegration of the central culture——Debut of Chinese modernity from a poem translation in the later Qing
摘要/Abstract
摘要：
一个特定文化背景中的人在翻译国外诗歌之时的文体选择、语言态度等,包含着他们对于异域文化的理解,并同样映射出他们对于本国文化在世界文化中的地位的理解。经由一则晚清诗歌翻译的著名案例,可以看出,虽然晚清时期的洋务运动与维新变法承认了西方在物质和制度层面的优越性,但在晚清人心中,依旧存有强烈的文化“中央之国”梦想。是否承认中国中心地位的失去是因为面对一个“现代的”世界,而并非传统“中央之国”的暂时没落,可以作为管窥中国现代性发端的一个开口。
Abstract：
Style,language and attitude reflect a translator's comprehension of the foreign culture as well as his own culture.This paper illustrates a poem translator of the late Qing dynasty,who seemingly admits the superiority of the foreign affairs and home reforms,despite his dream of Chinese central culture. Consequently,the loss of centrality of China is due to the beginning of the modern world.
