The emergence of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) signifies a new stage in the development of AI, marking a crucial step toward artificial general intelligence and suggesting the approaching “technological singularity.” Capabilities once considered uniquely human—such as learning, discovery, and innovation—are now being preliminarily mastered by GAI. Intelligent machines may give rise to human-like intelligence, meaning that mental labor, including learning and innovation, is poised to become increasingly automated. This shift could gradually lead humanity toward more comprehensive liberation. However, the advent of GAI also poses significant challenges to human values. Knowledge and wisdom, often regarded as humanity’s final bastion, may likewise be encroached upon by machines, precipitating a crisis in which humans risk losing their advantage and sense of existential purpose. Confronted with these profound challenges, humanity may be compelled to redirect its efforts toward more meaningful pursuits and seek new sources of value.
