Cultural Nativity and Modernity: Re-examining Lu Xun’s Theory of Literary Origins
摘要/Abstract
对文学起源问题的认识,直接反映了不同时代和社会的知识观念、价值观念。现代以来,知识界对中国文学起源的认识,既关乎现代性转型下对传统文化的不同认知维度,也勾连出古今中外参照中的文化根性定位问题。其中,鲁迅的文学起源观颇具代表性。在早 期探索中,他侧重从传统的“神思”论理解文艺的发生,显现出对民族文化根性的倚重。五四运动至大革命时期,他明确提出小说源于神话,体现了外来学说的影响及其复杂的处理心态;在后期则聚焦劳动说,在观念范式上有所转型,但仍兼及巫术、宗教等原始文化要 素,折射出文学起源问题的复杂性,以及鲁迅思想本身存在的悖论性特点。
Conceptions of literary origins directly reflect epistemic and axiological frameworks across historical periods. Modern Chinese intellectuals’ interpretations of literary genesis engage not only with divergent perceptions of traditional culture during modernity’s emergence but also with the positioning of cultural nativity within global comparative contexts. Lu Xun’s evolutionary perspective exemplifies this duality. His early explorations privileged traditional notions of “divine inspiration” (神思) as literature’s wellspring, emphasizing indigenous cultural foundations. During the May Fourth to Great Revolution period (1919–1927), he explicitly endorsed the mythological origin theory of fiction, revealing both Western theoretical influences and his complex negotiation thereof. In later years, while adopting the labor-origin theory as his primary paradigm, he concurrently acknowledged shamanistic, religious, and other primitive cultural elements. This conceptual trajectory underscores the inherent complexity of literary origins while exposing the paradoxical nature of Lu Xun’s intellectual development amid China’s modern transformation.
