Tan Kah Kee (Chen Jiageng) and the Early Exploration of the Chinese Path to Modernization
摘要/Abstract
以陈嘉庚为代表的华侨华人在中国共产党探索中国式现代化道路的历史进程中做出了重要贡献。陈嘉庚一生致力于中国的现代化建设，并在抗战后逐渐转变为新民主主义者、社会主义者，转为支持并参与探索中国式现代化道路，在多个方面和领域有所建树。他致力于中国的工业农业现代化、交通现代化、海洋领域的现代化和金融现代化，推动现代物质文明的建设。他积极参与和推进中国的民主化进程，注重国防现代化的建设，对中国现代政治文明的建设做出了贡献。他注意物质文明和精神文明相协调，在教育现代化、移风易俗方面推进了精神文明和社会文明的进步。他注重人民卫生健康问题，在生态文明现代化方面也有所贡献。陈嘉庚的现代化实践和观点，对今天推进中国式现代化仍有重要意义。
Overseas Chinese represented by Tan Kah Kee (Chen Jiageng, 1874-1961) made significant contributions to the Communist Party of China’s historical pursuit of the Chinese path to modernization. Throughout his life, Tan dedicated himself to China’s modernization. Following the War of Resistance against Japan (1937-1945), he transitioned ideologically to a supporter of new democracy and socialism, actively endorsing and participating in the exploration of China’ s distinctive modernization path. His achievements spanned multiple domains. He advanced industrial, agricultural, transportation, maritime, and financial modernization, fostering modern material civilization. He participated in China’s democratization process and emphasized national defense modernization, contributing to modern political civilization. By balancing material and spiritual progress, he promoted spiritual and social civilization through educational modernization and social custom reform. Furthermore, he addressed public health and made contributions to ecological civilization modernization. Tan Kah Kee’s practical engagements and conceptual insights retain profound relevance for advancing the Chinese path to modernization today.
