This paper explores the concept of artistic“aura” in the context of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on contemporary art. While the transition from handicraft to mechanical reproduction initially led to a diminishment of artistic aura, AI presents a novel opportunity for its resurgence and transformation. The study proposes that the aura of AI-generated art follows its own unique lifecycle, distinct from traditional artistic mediums. The research examines how the integration of AI’s technical capabilities with human modernity has fundamentally altered the mechanism of artistic aura. Two key shifts are identified: the substitution of space with distance, and the replacement of time with speed. Furthermore, this paper argues that the artistic potential of AI lies in two critical areas: first, in fostering a new symbiotic relationship between human creativity and machine intelligence within an instrumental understanding; and second, in constructing a new form of aura through interactive and collaborative processes between AI systems and human artists.
