Emphasizing Subtlety and Beginning: Unpacking Dong Zhongshu’ Philosophical Mechanism of Yuan through Erduan of Chunqiu Fanlu and Lu’s Annotation
摘要/Abstract
“端”在董仲舒思想中具有鲜明的基要性意涵，乃至成为其通识天之本体的必要关节。在由“端”及“无端”的理论进路中，本体之元机得以开显，借是进而建构起天、地、人三本的内在相通性。是故，“肃慎三本”实为崇尚精一之元机，以此诱掖人君治国理政当类天地化生而万物皆应之情，即在“本天元”之域为政，从而于无为而为以达至“君化若神”之状。
This paper explores the concept of Duan (端), or “starting point,” in Dong Zhongshu’s （董仲舒） philosophical thought, and how it is integral to understanding the essence of Tian (Heaven). Through the theoretical framework of Duan and its relation to the notion of “no Duan,” the essence of Yuan is elucidated, establishing a vital connection among the foundations of Heaven, Earth, and humanity. The principle of “treating Heaven, Earth, and people with caution” reflects a deep reverence for the essence of Yuan, guiding the monarch to govern in alignment with the principles of Tian, thereby achieving a state of “monarchy like Yuan.” This encapsulates the core idea of “valuing subtlety and the beginning.”
