Creative writing has historically faced skepticism from traditional literary scholarship and educational systems. Today, it confronts new challenges posed by the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. As a modern form of expression, creative writing is distinguished by its unique logic, language, and humanistic values. In contrast, AI-generated writing, driven by algorithms, exhibits different characteristics, constrained by its technical limitations and standardized modes. While AI writing cannot yet replace creative writing—owing to its one-dimensional response mechanisms and its inability to fully engage with aesthetics, transcendence, and critical nuance—it nonetheless presents significant challenges. These challenges arise in areas such as conceptual approaches, technology, genre evolution, dissemination, and copyright. However, rather than viewing AI as a threat, creative writing should embrace these challenges as opportunities. By leveraging AI, creative writing can further its educational, literary, and artistic missions, enhancing its relevance and impact in the digital age.
