Abstract:

The Xibaipo Period (May 1947-March 1949)marked the climax of the Fourth Revolutionary Upsurge in China. As the central figure of this revolutionary wave, Mao Zedong played a pivotal role in steering the campaign to “win the hearts of the people.” He did this by applying the core principles of Marxism, accurately interpreting public sentiment, and understanding the underlying dynamics of the people’s emotions. Through these efforts, he harnessed the immense power of the Chinese populace, significantly accelerating transformative changes in both the Chinese revolution and its historical narrative through his insightful thought on wining the people’s hearts, apt guidance, accurate policies, and appropriate methods. Mao’s thoughts on wining people’s hearts consist of three fundamental components: analyzing public sentiment trends, identifying the evolving patterns of these sentiments, and devising strategies to guide them. The historical impact of these ideas is evident in their ability to capture the overarching historical trajectory, inform effective policies and strategies, and advance the revolutionary cause in China. Characterized by a distinct class perspective and an international outlook, these thoughts are fundamentally peoplecentric. It is also noted for its dialectic, dynamic, and pragmatic nature. Thus, a thorough examination of the intrinsic logical connections between Mao Zedong’s thought on wining people’s hearts and the historical evolution of the Chinese revolution during the Xibaipo Period holds significant historical and practical relevance.
