The establishment of modern Chinese mythology is the basic premise of the study of the mythology of Chuci (Elegies of Chu), which is different from the traditional paradigm of classics and history. Under the impact of heterogeneous culture and driven by modern academic construction, the study of the mythology of Chuci since the 20th century has become a way for people to understand Chinese culture and re-examine Chinese civilization. The four basic approaches developed in the early 20th century are still found today, i.e., the empirical study based on faithful historical account, the systematic study of literature and art, the comparative study of civilizations, and the anthropological and ethnological interpretation. After the transition in the mid-20th century, the study of the mythology of Chuci has thrived and developed towards the consciousness of the discipline. At the same time, with the introspection of the frontier topics and paradigm advancement of Chinese mythology, the mythology of Chuci and the origin and characteristics of Chinese civilization, the formation of early classics, and the history of early Chinese thoughts have become trendy topics in academic circles. The new academic perspectives and missions indicate that the study of the mythology of Chuci will continue to participate in the deeper and broader contemporary academic development.
