The Event of Literature by Terry Eagleton is kind of exemplary of the knowledge production of literary theory. Eagleton believes that only texts that arouse new and different feelings can be called “the event of literature.” Strategies, namely, symbolic strategies, are manifested by the continuous movement between the boundary of the form and the content. History, reality and ideology exist in the literary world as subtexts in the strategic process. Strategies allow literature escape involvement in the external world and gain selfreferentiality. Eagleton’s discussion shows that real theory is not the deprivation of literature, but the discovery of literariness. Theory and literature chase each other, play with each other and generate each other, enriching the literary world together.
