Coordinating compounds in Chinese are very prominent, which can be seen from the following facts. There are a large amount of them, which make a high percentage among all the compounds in Chinese. With comprehensive variety, the syntactic functions and the internal semantic relations of coordinating compounds are manifold. These facts show the typological characteristics of Chinese coordinating compounds, which are quite different from the situations in some other languages. The prominence of coordinating compounds in Chinese are related to the disyllabification trend and the loss of some lexical semantic parameters over time.
