A Wanli Period (1572-1620) revision of Wenyuan Yinghua (《文苑英华》), block-printed in Longqing Period (1567-1572), reserved in the library of Shenyang Normal University, is quite distinctive. Its cover and backing paper are lined or mounted by abandoned official documents of Fujian government in the Wanli years. Some official documents record in detail the reasons for holding imperial examinations banquets, such as Rulian Banquet (入帘宴), Luming Banquet (鹿鸣宴) and Yingyang Banquet (鹰扬宴), as well as the items used for the events, and provide valuable first-hand materials for studying imperial examinations banquets in the Ming Dynasty. According to these official documents, it can be seen that the county government, workshops and retailers, and the Circuit Supervisors played different roles in the imperial examination banquets. The "three divisions" and the yamens (offices or administrations) bore the money for the flower coins, the porcelain and etiquette of the banquets. The workshops and retailers were the specific undertaker of the imperial examination banquets, and were also responsible for handling the remaining items after the banquets. The Circuit Supervisors were mainly responsible for supervising the use of funds for the imperial banquets.
