论《法言》的制作及文体特质

摘要:

汉代经学的师法、家法传统以及孔子的述作观念深刻影响两汉士人的著述活动,扬雄虽然未能摆脱当时这一主流之述作观念,但能够坦陈自身著述活动中“作”的成分,从而显现其在文献创制上的一种新的认知姿态。扬雄的模拟行为,主要缘于“述”之观念的影响,而其“述”的重点又在于经典的文本形式。不过扬雄接受经典文本形式,不是出于简单的效仿,而是希望借助经典文本形式所蕴含的文化精神,来更好地呈现自己的观念与思想。扬雄仿《论语》而制作《法言》,其真实目的在于追寻原儒的足迹,借助宗经、征圣的方式,把捉、阐释真正的成圣之道,实际上是通过《法言》的制作来建构真正的“道统”,从而实现自身王事实践的愿望。《法言》效仿《论语》的经典形式,在文体方面模仿的痕迹虽十分明显,但也存在较大差别。《法言》的命名显示扬雄有意拉开二者的距离,表明《法言》与《论语》之间并不是纯粹的模拟关系,而是具有自身的特质。

Abstract:

Scholars in Han Dynasty were profoundly shaped in their writing and compiling practice by shifa (师法transmission of tradition between teacher and student) and jiafa (家法transmission of family tradition) in the study of Confucian classics, and Confucius' transmitting/innovating (述作) dichotomy. Although Yang Xiong (扬雄) did not break away from the mainstream transmitting/innovating concept of writing at that time, he was honest about the “innovating” part in his writing and compiling practice, thus showing a new cognitive attitude in literature creation. Yang Xiong's imitation is mainly affected by the concept of “transmitting,” and the focus of his “transmitting” lies in the classic text form. However, Yang Xiong did not accept the classic text form out of simple imitation, but hoped to better present his ideas and thoughts with the help of the cultural spirit contained in the classic text form. The real purpose of Yang Xiong's compilation of Fayan(《法言》), which imitates The Analects of Confucius, is to trace the footprints of the original Confucianism, and to grasp and explain the real way to becoming a sage by zongjing (宗经honouring the Classics) and zhengsheng (征圣evidence from the Sage). In fact, it is through the compilation of Fayan, he wanted to construct a real “Confucian orthodoxy” and thus realize his own desire of practicing in the king's service. Fayan imitates the classic form of The Analects of Confucius. Although the trace of imitation in style is very obvious, there are also big differences. The title of Fayan shows that Yang Xiong intends to distance the two, which shows that Fayan is not a pure imitation of The Analects of Confucius, but has its own traits.
