Zhong Rong commended Cao Zhi as "overwhelmingly high GuQi," (literally, vigor of style) which was the core of Cao Zhi's aesthetics of style. The phrase signifies firstly the combination of "Gu" (literally "bone") and "Qi" (literally "vigor"), which then sends out a vehement emotion and a solemn and stirring aesthetic force. GuQi was distinctly manifested in Cao Zhi's commentary and literary practice. His "flowery rhetoric, simple style with literary grace, and his grudge" all contribute to his "overwhelmingly high GuQi." This aesthetic feature reflected in Cao Zhi's poems brought the vigor of style in Han-Wei and Jian'an Period, even of ancient China to consummation. In the history of ancient Chinese literature and art, Cao Zhi was a significant source of radiation, under which the aesthetics of style evolved into an aesthetics spirit, which played an irreplaceable role in ancient literary and artistic creation and aesthetics.
