The relationship between Marxism and Chinese culture is an unavoidable practical and theoretical question, that merits attention of the academic circles. Weight should be given to the ferreting and collating of the materials about the relationship between Marxism and Chinese culture. The materials are available in four stages, namely, before and after the birth of Marxism, before and after the introduction of Marxism into China. Weight should be given to the study of the important role of Marxism in the modernization of Chinese culture and the construction of Chinese disciplinary system, that is, we should study not only the Sinicization of Marxism, but also the Marxism transformation or modernization of Chinese culture, and pay attention to Marxism reshaping and reconstructing modern Chinese culture and its discipline system. Weight should also be given to the exploration of European cultural background when Marxism came into being, and the discovery the Chinese cultural factors in this background, so as to understand that Marxism is an ideological system that "absorbs and reforms all valuable things in the development of human thought and culture over the past two thousand years."
